Horsewyse has joined Facebook. We are really excited to be using this modern communication and networking tool. It allows us to inform so many people of the happenings at Horsewyse. The site is so interactive that it allows for really fun competitions like the one we are starting with. Our first  competition is a photographic one entitled "winter woolies' and can be of you horse or your pets. Jump onto facebook and join us in the fun. Great prizes and the kudos of being the winning photographer! On our homepage  there is a button that will take  you straight to the Horsewyse  facebook page.

The Manawatu Showing Championships are to be held again at the picturesque Foxton racecourse which offers such good going. The show date is SATURDAY FEBRUARY 13th  2010.  Due to a double booking at the venue we have had to change our day from its normal Sunday to the day before. Our theme for the event was to be a Valentines one and since the beautiful sashes and ribbons were already ordered we will still have lots of red abounding even though we will be a day early! We are very excited that this year we hold the innaugural  Bruce Charles Clarke Teams Championships.  The show is in its 7th  year and remains a Horse of the Year qualifier.

We have run our very first  Manawatu Horse and Pony Breeders show! The former show committee wanted to retire after successfully running the event since 1996.  Little did I realise when I competed at the first show I would go on to run it in 2009.  Thank you to all who helped or competed at the event.

Show's a Plenty at Horsewyse! We have just organised a very successful day for our pleasure riders to help them learn more about the art of showing. Our 'Double Take" pleasure show was held at Foxton racecourse on a lovely surface that allowed all horses to work well. There is an article on our blog about the day and we look forward to holding the Manawatu Horse and Pony Breeders show at the same venue on December 5th. That show is a HOY qualifier and we are expecting a good turnout of horses from the lower North Island.

HOT OFF THE PRESS!!
Last night at the Waikato Showing Championships the Showing Awards were announced on www.showring.co.nz.
Our Manawatu Showing Championships was awarded the bronze medal for NZ showing events.
NEW ZEALAND SHOWING AWARDS 2008/2009

NZ SHOWING EVENT
GOLD – North Island Premier
SILVER - NZ National Horse & Pony Show

BRONZE – Manawatu Showing Championships

We are also delighted to see so many Manawatu based riders honoured at the event. Well done to Lizzie Charleston for thinking of this innovative approach to raising the profile of showing. Now we just need eventing, showjumping, dressage etc to do the same.

 CELEBRATIONS AT HORSEWYSE!
We were thrilled last week to have our 20,000th customer in our Palmerston North store.

Amy Whitney was the lucky person and it was our pleasure to sell her a saddle which will be used
at the newly opened Hilltop Equestrian Centre in Palmerston North. Amy has promised to give us
information about lessons and other activities at Hilltop and when their website is live we will
update you all.
It is wonderful to see that the sport of horseriding is growing in our immediate area and this should
ensure many more young horseriders enjoying the sport. We all know of the benefits of riding
but without people in the business of teaching the sport will not grow. Not so long ago numbers
of children attending pony clubs dwindled and some shows and clubs went into recess. Thanks
to the owners of Hilltop Equestrian and others like them we will see the trend swing back to the heady days of my pony club days when 70 or more would attend rallies.

Thank you to Amy from all of us at Horsewyse.   p.s We hope the bubbles were enjoyed!

 Showing Champs round-up 2009:
The Manawatu Showing Championships were  held at  Foxton racecourse. The change of venue brought a smile to all of those competitors looking for softer,  more forgiving ground conditions. The wooden fence in front of the rings added ambience and gave spectators something to sit on or lean against. The comments that have been received all praise the venue for the going and the  facilities provided.
One hundred and thirty riders took part in the 7 rings coming  from as far away as the  Waikato, Hawkes Bay, Wellington, and the Taranaki.  The standard of competition was so strong in 1 ring that we had to allow extra time for judging to give these ponies fair consideration. A judge commented that it was like being at the Horse of the Year! They also said how smartly turned out and respectful the riders were.
We were delighted that our guest of honour, Adrian Broad the CEO for hospice was able to present sashes to the Champion of Champion winners.
I hope to have the blog updated with the results, photos and most importantly the ammount of the donation you have all helped raise for Arohanui Hospice. This was $2760.00.
Remember to send in your rider surveys.... we have already had some great suggestions and will award a wee prize to the best suggestion.  So far we are going to :
1. have a designated warm-up area.
2. run showing clinics
3. have more room between rings
4. put the ponies side by side with a gap before the rings containing horses begin
5. more music over the loud speakers (we could offer requests!)
Thank you from all of us for attending the show and we hope to see you again for the 2010 show, plus the ones that we will be running through the year! Wait for a special announcement about a show coming up in the spring.
Thanks from the Show Team of Horsewyse
